Fred’s longtime caddie and friend, Joe LaCava, has got a couple of mentions recently. On the recent rumor the Tiger Woods’ caddie, Steve Williams, was leaving Tiger (which turned out not to be true), LaCava had this to say at the AT&T National.
“Like anybody else, I would do anything for that job,” said Joe LaCava, the longtime caddie to Fred Couples who this week is working for the new Spanish pro, Pablo Martin, who earlier this year became the only amateur ever to win a professional tournament on the European Tour.
“If anybody tells you differently, they’re lying.”
Joe also made number two of veteran PGA Tour caddie John Wood’s “Daily Five” – Caddies who make a difference.
2. Joe LaCava (Fred Couples/Pablo Martin): There’s not a more confident caddie out there. He’s just never wrong and is not afraid of anything.
Never wrong? We’ll forget that whole 6-iron at 13 in the final round of the 1998 Masters. But seriously, that’s a nice compliment and he’s sandwiched between Jim MacKay (Phil Mickelson) and Steve Williams.

I would take him being wrong a whole lot more often if I could have that 6 iron put back in the bag. :(
Let’s not forget the 7-iron on 12 this year at the Masters that Freddy launched into the trap after questioning Joe’s decision but reluctantly went along with. Especially after he had just launched the same club (7) on the 11th, and the commentators on the on-line broadcast all said it was a club too much. But nobody is perfect, but Freddy is close.
COUPS IS THE MAN,WE ALL MESS HIM IN THE PALM SPRINGS AERA HOPE TO SEE YOU THIS THANKSGIVING IF NOT MYBE THE HOPE
