2009 will be a year Couples’ accomplishes a long time goal – captain an American team in golf. He will be named the captain for the Presidents Cup on Tuesday, according to Golf Digest’s Local Knowledge blog.
Fred has posted several of the Presidents Cup’s most memorable moments. The first memorable moment came in 1994 when his match against Nick Price was decided by hitting is second shot from a fairway bunker to a foot on the 18th hole to win the match one up. Certainly his most famous moment – and perhaps the President’s Cup’s most memorable moment – would come two years later when Fred holed a snaking putt to clinch the cup for the US side in a 2 and 1 victory over Vijay Singh. Finally, in what was likely his last time representing the US in team play, Fred holed his birdie putt on 18 to defeat Singh again at 1-up.
Couples is 9-5-2 in Presidents Cup play, including 3-0-1 in singles match play.
The 2009 Presidents Cup will be held at Harding Park in San Francisco, California.

this is so exciting; cant wait for 2009 now, and only hope our Freddie will get to play a lot before that. I think his back might be on its way to good health, so all of us can plan on seeing Freddie on the course more.
