The first round at the Shell Houston Open was anything but kind to Fred. A 1-over 73 has Fred in a tie for 81st place and 10 shots back of leaders Adam Scott and Johnson Wagner.
Fred was able to make three birdies on the day, but a bizarre double bogey on the ninth hole, Fred’s last, dropped him from red figures.
Couples hit his tee shot on the par 3 ninth to right side of the hole, off the green. He proceeded from there to chip to about 5 feet. It would take Fred three putts from there – including a stabbing effort on the second putt that missed the cup – to finish.
Fred will tee of tomorrow at 8:50 AM Eastern from the first hole.
