Fred Couples will participate for the first time in the PGA Tour playoffs in his quest for the FedEx Cup at this weeks tournament: The Barclays. The tournament moved from its previous home at Westchester Country Club in New York to Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey.
Ridgewood Country Club was designed by A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1929. Tillinghast did other New York area courses like Winged Foot and Bethpage Black. It hosted the 2001 Senior PGA Championship. This is the first time the course has hosted a PGA Tour event since 1981.
The FedEx Cup’s first of four events at the Barclays brings the top 144 players from the regular season for the opening round. Twenty-four players will be cut after the first tournament heading into the second event to be held at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, leaving 120 players still in the FedEx Cup.
Fred finds himself currently ranked 89th in the playoffs, meaning he is likely to make the second round of the playoffs. In order to make the third round of the playoffs at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Fred will need to get inside the top 70 of FedEx Cup points.

Not the start (or should I say 'the middle') that we wanted.
Nice bookend birdies, though!
Grind time, baby.
I have to agree with you. this whole Fed-Ex thing has always been a joke to me. Especially when they turned down the original idea(somewhat different) from Norman years earlier. But Freddie playing is great.
Same here, if he doesnt advance my set is OFF!!!!!!!
Crystal Pepsi was a classic…but do any of y'all remember Saturday Night Live's parody, Crystal Gravy?
LMAO!
Looking forward to a good sports weekend. Fred's in action and Saturday is the night race at Bristol.
Only positive for me is that FC is playing… FedEx Cup is a snoozer. Finchem's grand plan to compete with the NFL in TV ratings. Certainly not going to happen, and without @, this year's ratings will be barely a blip on the radar. Crystal Clear Pepsi was a better idea than golf playoffs. If FC doesn't advance, off goes my TV.
Well damn, checking into ticket prices and find ou can't just but a single day ticket from your friendly ticket outlet. You have to buy the entire week long book for $225. (ouch) I'll be checking ebay for 1st or 2nd round tickets.
This is great news…..
If Freddie makes it to Saint Louis, I'll be there.
