About 700 guests at Tiger Woods’ third annual Block Party were treated to a four-course meal prepared by celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis and a musical performance by Grammy Award winner John Mayer on Saturday night at the Grove of Anaheim.

Another highlight of the event, which raises more than $1 million each year for the Tiger Woods Learning Center, was a live auction that generated $258,000. The big item was a package to the 2008 Masters. Fred Couples, who participated in an exhibition with Tiger earlier in the day, came to the stage and offered to take the winning bidder to play Augusta the Sunday before the tournament.

Couples said he’d pick up the winning bidder with his jet and let him stay with him. The only hitch: the winning bidder couldn’t be a “chop.” The winning bid was $145,000.

Popular PGA Tour pro Fred Couples of Scottsdale will serve as host of a charity tournament to benefit children through the Banner Health Foundation.

The Banner Health Pro-Am hosted by Fred Couples, formerly the Tony M. Coury Sr. Pro-Am, will be played Sept. 10 at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club in Gold Canyon. The event will benefit school-based health clinics for uninsured and underinsured children in the East Valley.

The cost is $1,500 per player. Foursome sponsorships, for three amateurs and a pro, range from $4,500-$6,000. Information: (602) 747-4654.

Fred to host a clinic with Tiger Woods

(…) Woods isn’t sure how long he’ll take off. He’ll definitely watch some baseball — his Dodgers are bidding for a wild card berth — and host the second annual OC Block Party to benefit the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim on Oct. 7.

Woods and Fred Couples will do a clinic that morning at Mesa Verda Country Club in Costa Mesa. Then “King of Queens” star Kevin James will host the evening’s entertainment that includes performances by Glen Frey and Joe Walsh of the Eagles. Celebrity chef Bobby Flay will prepare a gourmet dinner.

“I’ve got a bunch of stuff to do over the next couple weeks,” Woods said. “I know I’m not going to touch a club for a couple weeks.”

Last year’s inaugural Block Party raised more than $1 million for the TWLC.

Fred rumoured to play in Vegas

Fred Couples will probably play the Frys.com Open, formely known as the Las Vegas Invitational. This event will be played over two TPC courses; the TPC Summerlin and TPC The Canyons.
