Fred’s first and second round playing partners at this week’s FBR Open are J.B. Holmes and Steve Flesch. First round tee time is 3:35 PM Eastern off #10 tee. Second round tee time is 11:25 AM Eastern off #1 tee.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Gary D’Amato posted who he voted for the 2008 class of the World Golf Hall of Fame on his blog- Fred Couples was among the three that he voted for. He also voted for Lanny Wadkins and Davis Love III. Ballots are typically due by the first of March with results announced in April.

Fred will likely not make the Hall of Fame this year. Last year he picked up 13% of the vote, well below the required 65%. If Fred doesn’t make it in on the golf writers’ vote, he’ll have a second chance through the Veteran’s Category once he’s been retired for 30 years.

This is usually a very debated topic with regards to Fred’s Hall of Fame status, even among his fans. Most everybody agrees that if Fred were to win a second major, he’d be a lock. However, there are a number of Hall of Fame members who have arguably the same or worse records than Fred currently has – this debate will likely continue for years to come, unless Fred were to capture a second major, as unlikely as that is.

Either way, if you’re a Freddie fan, I encourage you to thank Gary, who truly is a very good golf writer, in the comments section of his blog.

Fred is also already picking up endorsements for winning this year’s Masters – this one coming from the Naples Daily News’ Tom Patri.

Speaking of sightings, early on our good friend Mr. Fred Couples has posted and posted nicely both at The Hope and San Diego. The top 10 at Torrey was his first since the 2006 Masters. Age 48, lots of salt and pepper, a tender back, and Boom Boom blasted one on Sunday 340 right down Broadway, bumped it on the par-5 with a medium iron in two, and two swipes later tipped his cap to the crowd. He will play in Phoenix, very positive. Can’t tell you last time he played three straight.

I’d love to see a 49-year-old win the Masters , and the Giants bump off the Pats. Yes, I do know I dream big; is there any other way to dream? Small … I think not.
