Yes it's a sad day around here. The course I have played and worked at for the last 20+ years closed yesterday. 
Several contributing factors, the economy I suppose being the main one. But on the bright side, I got my 7th hole in one Sat. 
It was sorta funny, I was on the first tee a 120yd par 3, just as I start to take the club back my cell rings. (I had forgot to take it out of my pocket)
Knowing it's the wife I shut it off as fast as possible, I'm thinking when I call her back I'll tell her she really messed up my shot. Well the rest of the story as they say, I did hit kind of a bad shot, caught it thin, landed in front of the green and run right in the hole. lol
I'll still being playing golf nearly every day, I along with all the guys I play with have already joined another course here in town. ( But it won't be the same)

you made my day with that story Rando! I haven't had the best week, but hearing someone did have something great like that happen to them makes me feel better. Congrats and I know what you mean about the phone call, since I started keeping the grandsons and not playing with the hubby everyday I tend to call at inopportune times myself. I can hear the other guys in the background, who I used to play with also, giving me the business when I do it.
I also feel for you about your club. But in no time at all you will start to feel at home on the new one.
Just be glad that the economy hasn't stopped us from playing altogether yet!
BTW, I noticed that only 6 people picked Fred this week, me being one of them and you also, I didn't play him today though. I will wait and see how rusty he is first. I wanna believe, but it gets harder every time he tees it up anymore.
