I played golf 4-5 times a week for 10 years and my USGA index got down to 4.3. Then circumstances(EX-wife)made playing not possible any more.
That was 9 years ago. The circumstances no longer are a problem and i’ve started playing again. My 2 questions are:
1. With the Maxfli Revolution not being made any more I need to find a new ball. I loved the soft feel. What ball have you found that has a similar feel to it? The soft feel is more important than distance to me but the Revolution was a GREAT mix of both.
2. When I stopped playing I was 40. Now i’m 50 and at the range i’m having a really hard time turning the ball over. A friend suggested the S300 shafts may to be too stiff for me especially in the long irons because it is only natural that I don’t have the same swing speed as I did 10 years ago. I play Mizuno t-zoid irons and am thinking about going to a shaft that is not as stiff. Any suggestions?

Hello Freddy….been a fan of yours since Houston,,,have watched countless hours of you playing through the years and today watching you at the masters,,,I see you struggle occasionally on your putting game…I think I can help…seriously…I’m sure you have received all kinds of instruction and advise through the years but I have developed and discovered something that will put an end to the yips and missing those 3 4 5 footers on a regular basis,,,,consistently!!! I know I know…what does this guy know that some of the best putting couches haven’t shown Me,,,well if you are ever in the Los Angeles area Please…Please give Me 30 minutes of your time. Fred may remember long time Head Pro and golfer from Jackson/West Seattle Municipal golf courses, Dick Hendrickson. He recently passed away and was always a big fan of Fred and followed his career from his beginnings in Beacon Hill as a young man. Just wishing you a speedy recovery with your recent back issues. I’m currently recovering from lumbar fusion and it is tough. First month is very painful but it gets better as time goes by. I don’t know what your condition is but I do know you have delt with the pain for years. Well good luck and don’t rush to get back out on the course.

Fred if I had your money, I would definitely check into the Laser Spine Institute…..I have bad back problems also and checked it out and the technology they use is amazing!! If I could only afford the price of the surgery I would have it as soon as I could. I went through the whole enrollment process and when it came to the money part I had to stop because I couldn’t handle the cost. I believe Peter Jacobson had his surgery there, maybe talk to him. I have always enjoyed watching you play and hate to see a bad back take you away from golf if a fix is available and possible. I hope you read this and at least take a look at their website. Fred – There is no permanent cure for your back that does not include back exercises to strengthen and stretch the muscles. I am 61 years old and have had 2 back surgeries to remove disc fluid that had pinched off nerves. Now I only do a back exercise routine that I put together from information from Chiropractors and Neurosurgeons. It has worked for me and many people that I have given the exercises. I can’t carry a bag for 18 holes, but I do walk with a pull cart and have no pain. The exercises have detailed descriptions, but no pictures.
